Another victim of the rebuilding
of Shanghai is this old woman who probably lived all her life on the location
which is now only rubbles. She is looking for something which she thinks
must be lying somewhere. She will be offered cheap housing in another
highrise, new but most probably on the outskirts of town. Wealthier chinese
will take her place in highrises to be built in this "near to the
centre of shanghai activities" area. Allthough the now halftorn buildings
look very poor, one should note that many have airconditioners and affectionately
called "the Ghetto" by expats living nearby, most of them do
not hesitate to pass this area even at night as it is completely safe.
Many small paths leading through it are community livingrooms providing
all the surveyance it takes for a safe area.
