Lijiang, Unesco World Heritage Site. In 1996 the city was almost destroyed by a an earthquake measuring over 7 on the Richter-scale. Today a new and modern city has sprung up around the old city which has been preserved. No traffic is allowed in the old city. The local Naxi have their own particular culture and people are swarthy and small. Wearing their traditional dress they enliven the scene. Not so far away the Jade dragon Snow Mountain beacons at the tourists.
